Creativity: Having the Brass To Put a Circus Bear In A Hostel

We are charged with looking at creativity this, in terms of idea construction, video/audio, and/or drawing/animation for class. Now for the record I have a GoPro camera and have been filming and shooting things for the soon to be live M.O.D.tv, but more in that later. For now it want to focus on idea construction.

If you’ve visited this blog in the past you may have noticed updates or post regarding feature posts. Needless to say not all of these posts come to light and others are stuck in draft limbo.

But thanks to the Mindomo app, I at least have a bases for post and how to start them. Mindomo is essentially a free idea web app that serves as a great jumping off point for topics.

Here you can see I’ve set an outline for posts that I need to write. I love this as it saves me from the slingers and arrows of trying to remember what I wanted to write about. I’m currently using the app to come up with a spiritual successor to the Power Stone series. Here’s hoping Capcom can get their collective crap together and realize they’re sitting on a potential cash cow. Sorry, side tracked.

I mentioned the GoPro camera, but what I didn’t mention was the free apps available for it. The GoPro app lets you use a smartphone or tablet as a secondary monitor for viewing your shots and setting frames. The app lets you change the capture modes as well as the finer details of how you want a shot to look. On top of that you can review previously taken pictures or video. I love this app, as it saves me 25$ for not having to by the LCD screen attachment and gives me a clear view of what my final product will look like.

The only set back being that vide preview/playback doesn’t work past /regular 720 – 1080 resolution or whatever your device limits it to. While on the subject of video capture, YouTube has another app out that let’s you take video with your iPad and upload it to YouTube.

20140224-003648.jpgRiiiiiiiight there.

I tampered with it a bit and made a small video which can be viewed here. The clip doesn’t show case all the features however. Video recorded can be cut down to a desired length making a breeze to cut out those awkward camera on/off moments. You can add music to videos from YouTube’s library or pull them from your own. Additional clips can be added to an existing one allowing for variety in your uploads. You can then upload your video and simultaneously share to other social networks.

As for drawing and animation, while I like both, my skill in either is incredibly lacking. That didn’t really stop from downloading the Aviary app. Free and nice little photo editor (that can apparently let you print out pictures at a Wallgreens). I used this app to circle the YouTube capture app in the previous picture.

Coupled with a stylus given to us earlier, using this app is easy and can let you do whatever you need.

All in all, this is the second most amount of physical creative work I’ve had to do for a post. The first being an attempt at a Patlabor joke I made in my post about Incubot USBs. Still it says something that this entire post was done from an iPad. Mobile technology is providing us with a way to do more of anything anywhere. While being stationed at a desktop may offer you more in depth features or options, mobile tech can help you set up the ground work and most of grunt work for any project.
